*Reservations for stays from April 27th to May 20th will be accepted from 8:00 a.m. on April 20th by both telephone and online reservation systems.

We recommend making a reservation early since the hut often becomes filled to capacity on weekends and national holidays. Once the hut is filled to capacity, we will stop taking reservations for the day.

  • All Rooms are dormitory-style, shared rooms. Each guest is allocated 1 futon.
  • Private room are also available for additional charge(¥18,000extra/room)
    Each Private room is 6 tatami mats in size and has 6 futons.
  • There is ¥2000 discount if staying consecutive nights. The discount applies from 2nd night.
  • Drinking water is free for guest. Hot water is ¥200/bottle.
  • There is a small shop for snacks, drinks and souvenirs.
  • Lunch menu is available from 10:30-14:30(noodles,curry rice,etc)
  • A relaxing lounge and library are available for guest.

Camping information

1person ¥2000
(¥500 for children under 13 years old)

No Reservations are required.
There are 60 tent sites which are given on “first come first serve” basis. If the sites become full, you may be asked to stay at the hut.

  • Drinking water and toilet fee is included in the cost.
  • There is a small shop for snacks, drinks and souvenirs.However tent guests are not allowed to use the hut facilities such as the lounge,library and drying room.
  • The guest may also order dinner and/or Bento-style lunch box. Please place your order by 4pm. Dinner will be served as takeout style.

Trekking Season Information

Hotakadake Sanso is located 3000m above sea level,along a rocky ridge.
The mountain skills you will need to climb depend upon the season and vary greatly throughout the year.
All routes to Hotakadake Sanso are trekking routes,not hiking routes.
Even in the summer season you will need solid trekking boots.

April—June

The weather will be cold and wet with snow and ice.
You will need crampons(10/12point), an ice ax and mountaineering skills for snow.
There are very few climbers during this season, except during the Golden week holidays.(late April- early May)
You will need to find the best route on the snow by yourself.

June—early July

Although it is becoming summer,the area is still covered in snow.
You will need crampons(10/12point), an ice ax and mountaineering skills for snow.
There are still very few climbers during this season. You will need to find the best route on the snow by yourself.

Mid July—September

This is the peak summer season and it is a busy time for the mountain hut.
This season is recommended for beginners.
Be sure to check the weather forecast before your departure.
It is recommended to get an early start in order to arrive at the hut at a safe time.We ask that guests to arrive by 3pm.

Mid September—November

It is the beginning of autumn in the mountains.
In October and November, the weather can be cold and wet with snow and possibly freezing rain.
You will need equipment for very cold weather and have a high level of mountain climbing skill.
You must use caution when climbing in this season,and be aware the days are now much shorter and colder.

From Kamikouchi

1.Kamikouchi—Yokoo—Karasawa―Hotakadake Sanso
8.5hours

The route is recommended if it is you first time or if you are beginner.
There are many other mountain huts along this route, so if you become tired or the weather becomes bad, you can stay at one of the other huts(Reservations are required).
From Karasawa the trail becomes rocky and more difficult.
Please use caution.

2.Kamikouchi—Dakesawa—Mt.Okuhotaka—Hotkadake Sanso
8.5hours

From Dakesawa, the trail becomes rocky and steep so it is important to choose this route when the weather condition is good.
A large section of the trail is along an exposed ridge which is above the tree line.
It is important to note there are no mountain huts between Dakesawa and Hotakadake Sanso.(5hours)
Until summer,this route also has numerous sections of steep snow which you will need to traverse.
It is not recommended for inexperienced climbers.

Side trip----Mt.Maehotaka / 1hour return

From ShinhotakaOnsen

ShinnhotakaOnsen—Hotakadaira—Shiradashisawa—Hotakadake Sanso
9hours

This route is only recommended for very experienced climbers.
The trail has long ladders, chains and falling rocks are common.
There are few other climbers and no other mountain huts along this route.

The upper part of the trail is difficult to find since it has changed due to the 2020 earthquake.
This route is not recommended when there is still snow on it.
Use extreme caution if climbing this route.

From the ridge

There are the routes from Mt.Yari, Mt.Kitahotaka, Mt.Nishihotaka, but it’s not for beginners.
Please check route guide and map before your departure.
Not recommended for snow season.

Important information

For all routes,be sure to check the weather forecast,climbing times and assess your own ability beforehand.It is highly recommended to get an early start in order to arrive at the hut at the safe time.

During the snow season, please use extreme caution.The snow conditions vary with the temperature and can change greatly throughout the day and as you change elevation.

Since Hotakadake Sanso is located on a ridge,water is very scarce.Please help us conserve the water.

Vegetarian meals are available if you notice us in advance.Please let us know if you would like a vegetarian meal when you make a reservation for your stay.
